General

Rose-Hip Vital® Canine is a powerful, clinically proven 100% natural plant-based anti-inflammatory and immune system support for improving joint health and general well-being of active and aging dogs. Used to treat inflammation, prevent joint issues, supplement nutrition and improve performance, Rose-Hip Vital® Canine’s unique combination of anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants and natural vitamin C put it in a category all on its own.

Rosehips are the berry-like fruit of the wild rose bush species Rosa Canina. A wholefood known to be one of nature’s richest sources of natural vitamin C. A superfood containing 8 naturally occurring vitamins (including C, E, B1 and B6) and 23 minerals (including iron, copper, zinc and magnesium), essential fatty acids (omegas 3, 6 and 9), antioxidants and flavonoids.

What are Rosehips?
GOPO® is exclusive to Rose-Hip Vital®

GOPO® is the active compound in Rose-Hip Vital® Canine which makes it unique.

Patented extraction and drying processes isolate and activate the galactolipid/fatty acid called GOPO® which has scientifically proven anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties.

GOPO® works by stopping excess white blood cells from gathering around inflamed tissue, thereby breaking the cycle of inflammation and protecting cartilage.

GOPO® is only found in rosehips grown and harvested in the vitamin-enriched soils of Denmark, where they are left to grow non-invasively for years, allowing them to stretch their roots deep into the soil, before they’re gently extracted using our patented manufacturing process.

Rosehip products that do not contain GOPO® have not been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Dosage

The dosage varies based on your dog''s weight, so be sure to follow the recommended dosage guidelines.

How much Rose-Hip Vital® Canine do I give to my dog?

Should your dog suffer from chronic inflammation, it is safe to administer the loading dose ongoing.

If you are using Rose-Hip Vital® Canine as a preventative, there is no need to administer the loading dose.

Dosage for smaller dogs:

With a dog weighing less than 7.5kg you can, in theory, halve the lowest dosage and see the same results. In this case, we would recommend 1 Scoop Daily as your Loading Dose and 1/2 Scoop Daily ongoing.

A 2.5g level scoop included in each bottle/bucket.

Mix Rose-Hip Vital® Canine powder in with your dog's food, wet or dry.

Do not mix with hot food or hot liquid as this will undermine the effectiveness of the powder.

Frequency:

If your dog eats twice a day, mix half the recommended dosage with the morning meal and the balance with the evening meal.

If your dog only eats once a day, mix the full recommended dosage with the meal.

Can my dog take the Human Capsules instead of Powder?

Absolutely. All of our Rose-Hip Vital® products contain the exact same patented Rosehip powder.

3 human capsules = 2.5g of powder (835mg in each capsule).

So if your dog weighing up to 15kg requires 2 scoops daily, that would be total 5g of powder. This equates to 6 human capsules daily. Similarly if your large dog > 30kg requires 6 scoops daily, that would be total 15g of powder which equates to 18 capsules daily.

1 bottle of Rose-Hip Vital® Joint Health contains 150 capsules. So for dogs up to 15kg, 1 bottle lasts approximately 25 days which is adequate for the loading dose. However if your dog > 30kg, 1 bottle will last only 8 days so you will require about 3 bottles to complete the loading dose.

Therefore, the capsules are more suited to dogs weighing less than 15kg. Heavier dogs would require many capsules, which might be challenging to administer and less cost-effective.

Loading Dose (3 weeks) Maintenance Dose (Ongoing)
Dog Weight Powder Capsule Equivalent Powder Capsule Equivalent
Up to 15kg 2 scoops 6 capsules 1 scoops 3 capsules
15-30kg 4 scoops 12 capsules 2 scoops 6 capsules
30kg+ 6 scoops 18 capsules 3 scoops 9 capsules

Results are typically noticed after 3 weeks on the Loading Dose.

The timeframe for results may vary depending on the individual dog. Some dogs may experience improvement within a few weeks, while others may take longer.

Consistency in administering the dosage is key.

Rose-Hip Vital® Canine is designed for long-term use to maintain joint health and general wellbeing. Many dogs benefit from continuous use, but you can tailor the duration based on your dog’s specific health needs and improvements.

Rose-Hip Vital® Canine comes in three sizes: 150g, 500g, and a 1.5kg tub.

150g bottle: This is a good trial size if you're introducing Rose-Hip Vital® Canine to your dog for the first time, or if you have small dog under 15kg.

500g bottle: This is recommended for dogs over 15kg, because the 150g bottle won't last through the loading dose period. It's also more cost-effective even for smaller dogs in the long run.

1.5kg tub: This is the most cost-effective option for larger dogs over 30kg, as they typically require more daily scoops.

If you already know your dog is a fussy eater, we suggest you gradually introduce Rose-Hip Vital® Canine. Start with a small pinch of powder and slowly increase to the recommended dose over time.

Other tips to get your fussy dog to eat Rose-Hip Vital® Canine include mixing it with wet food, mince, sardines, tuna, yoghurt, cottage cheese, milk, raw egg, butter or stock. Remember to avoid hot food or liquid.

Medication Interactions

There are no known side effects and Rose-Hip Vital® Canine is shown to be well tolerated.

No. Rose-Hip Vital® Canine does not interfere with prescription drugs or other supplements. However, if your dog is on medication, especially for pre-existing conditions, it’s always best to consult your veterinarian as a precaution.

Yes, however, we recommend introducing the product gradually to ensure tolerance. We recommend veterinary consultation if your dog has a medical history of stomach sensitivity.

Rose-Hip Vital® Canine is made from rosehip berries ground into a powder. Rosehip berries contain:

  • 8 naturally occurring vitamins, including C, E, B1 and B6;
  • 23 minerals, including iron, copper, zinc and magnesium;
  • essential fatty acids, including omegas 3, 6 and 9, antioxidants and flavonoids.

Just like humans, dogs can have individual sensitivities or allergies to certain vitamins, minerals and fatty acids, which could trigger gastrointestinal upset, including diarrhea.

Additionally, rosehip berries are known for their natural vitamin C content. Because Rose-Hip Vital® Canine is made from pure rosehip berries, the Vitamic C content is high. Vitamin C can sometimes cause diarrhea in dogs due to over-absorption.

We recommend reducing the dosage of Rose-Hip Vital® Canine to reduce sensitivity, or stopping altogether if your dog continues to diarrhea.

Read our blog post to understand more about common joint conditions in dogs.

Cartilage damage is the wearing down of a tough, flexible tissue called cartilage, which covers the ends of bones at joints. Cartilage acts as a cushion and allows your dog's bones to move smoothly, reducing friction and preventing them from rubbing against each other. Damaged or worn out cartilage can cause pain, swelling, and loss of motion in the joint.

Cartilage cannot regenerate easily as it lacks a direct blood supply, and its cells (chondrocytes) have limited ability to reproduce and repair damaged tissue.

Like all other joint supplements, Rose-Hip Vital® Canine is unable to repair damaged cartilage, but it may prevent further cartilage loss by arresting and breaking the cycle of the inflammation. Excessive or uncontrolled inflammation can lead to further tissue damage, and the patented compound GOPO® in Rose-Hip Vital® Canine works by preventing excessive white blood cell accumulation at the affected area. Learn how GOPO® works.

Rose-Hip Vital® may also help with the pain caused by cartilage damage and bone-on-bone friction.
